Mayor Martin Chavez tells the Journal that the city will take part in the worldwide event of Earth Hour today, and he's urging all residents to join in.
As part of the "global movement," which is a campaign to raise awareness about climate change, people are urged to shut off their lights for an hour beginning at 8 p.m.
"We've directed all non-essential city facility lights to be turned off for that one hour," Chavez said this afternoon. "And I hope all Albuquerqueans will do that as well privately."
