Two-hour standoff near Sedillo Hill ends in arrest of man believed to have gun.
Bernalillo County sheriff's deputies shut down Interstate 40 near the Sedillo Hill exit just before midnight and after a tense two-hour standoff, pulled a man they believed to be drunk from his car and placed him under arrest just before 2 a.m., KOAT-TV is reporting. Truckers forced a driver off the highway and boxed in the car near the Edgewood exit because they believed the driver was drunk, and deputies who arrived at the scene said the driver began waving what appeared to be a gun, Action 7 News reported. Eventually, heavily armed deputies who swarmed around the car broke the car's windows with beanbag rounds and fired pepper spray balls in an effort to get the man to surrender, KOAT-TV said. After more than an hour of negotiations, deputies approached the man with drawn guns and pulled him out of the car and put him under arrest, according to KOAT-TV. The man, whose name hasn't been released, appeared to be drunk and is expected to face DWI charges along with aggravated assault and aggravated battery charges, Action 7 News reported.
