Slight cooldown today with winds kicking up to 10 to 20 mph.
Our high temperature in Albuquerque today is expected to be around 69, just slightly above the normal high of 67, but the story once again will be the breezes, an east wind 10 to 20 mph becoming southerly, according to the National Weather Service. A backdoor cold front is dipping southward across the eastern plains today, bringing the possibility of strong east canyon winds bursting into the Rio Grande Valley after sunup, according to the weather service's area forecast discussion. The good news for the eastern part of New Mexico is a drop in temperatures by about 15 to 20 degrees from Monday, a possibility of precipitation in the northeast, and along with the cooler temperatures, less wind and a break in the critical fire conditions that have marked forecasts over the past few days. Conditions will change sharply for our area on Wednesday, with a high temperature expected to hit 77 and much stronger winds -- a north wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to between 25 and 30 mph, gusting as high as 40 mph, according to the weather service. Windy weather should continue through Thursday, and there's even a slight chance of showers for the metro area Thursday night.
