High clouds over ABQ; above-normal temperatures, breezy to windy today.

There's a fire weather watch in effect right now for this afternoon into early evening for parts of the northwest highlands, west central highlands, the middle Rio Grande valley, the Sandia, Manzano and Gallinas mountains, northeast highlands and central high plains and northeast highlands, according to the National Weather Service.

That covers a lot of ground across northern New Mexico, and for most of southern New Mexico there'll be a red flag warning in effect this afternoon and evening, extending into Thursday as humidities get lower, winds kick up and temperatures get higher in the heat of the day.

The forecasters are expecting the red flags to fly at some point today over most of the state, except for a small corner of northwestern New Mexico.

For Albuquerque, we are looking for the sun to peek through the high cloud cover, with a high approaching the mid 70s, well above the average high of 67 for this date, and easterly 5-10 mph winds turning south at 20-25 mph, possibly gusting to 35 mph, according to the weather service.

Cooler temperatures are expected tomorrow (a high of 68) and even a very slight chance of showers (10 percent) Thursday night, according to the weather service.
