S.F. man accused of kidnapping, raping Espanola 19-year-old he called his "property."
Herman Flores Jr., 24, of Santa Fe, is accused of kidnapping and raping a 19-year-old Espanola woman he considered his "property" after her brother traded her for heroin last fall, Espanola police told The New Mexican. Flores apparently considered the woman his permanent possession and wanted her to bear his children, Espanola Police Detective Christian Lopez told the Santa Fe paper. "It is bizarre," Lopez told The New Mexican. "I've not heard of this happening before." According to a police report, the woman's boyfriend called Espanola police around 5:15 a.m. last Friday to report that she had sent him text messages earlier that morning to say she was being taken against her will and was afraid she might be killed, The New Mexican reported. Flores was charged in Santa Fe Magistrate Court with criminal sexual penetration and was charged in Rio Arriba Magistrate Court with kidnapping, aggravated burglary and threatening or intimidating a witness, the paper said. The District Attorney's Office will decide whether to charge anyone else in the case, according to The New Mexican.
