Three-year, $250,000-a-year contract for new superintendent signed today.

The Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education today approved and signed a three-year, $250,000-a-year contract for incoming Superintendent Winston Brooks, according to an APS news release.

Brooks was hired last month by the board last month to replace former Superintendent Elizabeth Everitt, who announced her retirement last summer and left in December to take a new job in South Carolina, the release said.

The contract, which runs from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2011, also includes benefits such as medical insurance, a $300,000 life insurance policy and a retirement annuity of $1,250 a month, according to the release.

Brooks was superintendent of Wichita Public Schools in Kansas for the past decade, the release said.
