Blaze forcing evacuations in Mescalero; grassfire near Capitan burning 1,000 acres.

The Salt Well Fire is burning about 30 acres near Mescalero, but is forcing the mandatory evacuation of one neighborhood and a voluntary evacuation is suggested in two other neighborhoods, KOB-TV is reporting.

Tribal firefighters from the Mescalero Apache Reservation and Otero County firefighters are battling the blaze, which is on tribal land, according to Eyewitness News 4.

Meanwhile, strong winds are driving a grass fire that has burned an estimated 1,000 acres about 30 miles northeast of Capitan, according to KOB-TV and The Associated Press .

The fire, dubbed the Pipeline 2 Fire, was reported around 11:30 this morning and is burning on private and Bureau of Land Management land, State Forestry Division spokesman Dan Ware told the AP.

No structures have been threatened so far by the Pipeline 2 Fire, the AP reported.
