Dashboard cam captures Edgewood to Santa Rosa pursuit last Wednesday.
Jason Griego, 23, is undergoing psychiatric evaluation at the state psychiatric hospital in Las Vegas, N.M., after leading lawmen on a wild chase on Interstate 40 between Edgewood and Santa Rosa last Wednesday, KRQE News 13 and KOB-TV reported on their Web sites. The chase began Wednesday morning when Santa Fe County sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic violence call at the Phillips 66 gas station in Edgewood, where Griego was holding his girlfriend in a bear hug, claiming she was possessed by demons, News 13 reported. Deputies said Griego wouldn't let the woman go, so they fired a Taser at him, and woman escaped as Griego went down, but he allegedly pulled the electric dart's prongs from his back, punched a deputy in the face and took off in his car, KRQE said. Griego's car then fled pursuing officers for more than 80 miles, at times at speeds of 110 mph, until the chase ended in Santa Rosa, the station said. "He was racing down the interstate for about 30 miles on two flat tires and for five miles on four flat tires," Department of Public Safety spokesman Peter Olson told KRQE. "He couldn't steer his car any more, got stuck on a curb, got out and took off running and was quickly apprehended by police." Griego is facing charges of false imprisonment, resisting arrest, evading officers and battery on a law officer, according to KOB-TV. You can see the dash-cam video on KRQE's Web site of officers laying out spike strips and Griego proceeding on despite his blown-out tires.
