Hours after being put on probation, Crouch Mesa man gets fourth DWI.

It was just hours after Rennie Yazzie, 22, of Crouch Mesa, was put on supervised probation for an October 2007 drunken driving/fleeing law officers case when he tried to outrun San Juan County sheriff's deputies at speeds upwards of 100 mph, the Farmington Daily Times reported.

Yazzie was given a two-year suspended sentence on Monday in the 2007 case, after state District Judge Thomas Hynes told him: "You need to look at this (sentence) as an opportunity ... You can learn from this and get off alcohol," the Daily Times reported.

Just 12 hours later, around 9 p.m. Monday, Farmington police reported Yazzie's car driving recklessly on a San Juan County road, and sheriff's deputies gave chase, dropping stop sticks that blew out three of Yazzie's tires, the paper said.

Just as officers closed in, Yazzie backed his car into patrol units causing minor damage to each, then roared off toward U.S. 64 while a passenger in the car jumped out, later telling police he was too scared to stay in the vehicle, the Daily Times said.

A little later on, another passenger jumped out and Yazzie stopped the car and was put under arrest, charged with his fourth DWI, aggravated fleeing and two counts of battery on a police officer, according to the Daily Times.

He now faces an additional two years for violating probation in addition to jail time if convicted on the new charges, the paper said.

Substance abuse counselor Richard Bonham had told the court earlier in the day that Yazzie had completed 90 days alcohol-free and was wearing a body alcohol content monitoring device, the Daily Times reported.

"We don't normally see people who violate their conditions just because they're sentenced," Bonham later told the Daily Times. "I'm shocked ... And I can't explain it."
