Wind advisory in effect until 8 p.m.; high wind warning for the east.
Rain and snow paid a post-winter visit to New Mexico Wednesday, but things will dry out some today as the winds kick up across most of the state. It's only going to hit an estimated high of 58 (and the same is forecast for tomorrow) in Albuquerque today, with west winds 5 to 10 mph increasing to between 30 and 35 mph, gusting all the way up to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service . There's a wind advisory in effect for western and northwestern New Mexico, a sliver of the northeast and the Albuquerque area until 8 tonight as a weak cold front drops from north to south across the state, the weather service said. It's going to get even dicier east of the central mountains today with a high wind warning -- gusts topping 60 mph across the eastern and southeast plains all the way to the Texas state line -- also in effect until 8 p.m.
