An untimely winter weather advisory is in effect today and tonight for New Mexico's northern mountains and northeast highlands with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches possible at elevations above 6,500 feet through the day, according to the National Weather Service. By Saturday morning, there could be 1 to 3 inches on the ground below 7,500 feet and 3 to 5 inches above 7,500 feet, and the forecasters are warning of reduced visibilities and snowpacked roads in some areas. Portions of Interstate 25 between Glorieta and Raton Pass could see 1 to 3 inches of snow this evening and overnight. Temperatures in the Albuquerque area will continue to be well below the average high of 69 for this date, topping out around 57, according to the weather service. A breezy northwest wind of 5 to 10 mph will kick up to 20 to 25 mph today, with possible gusts as high as 35 mph, the weather service predicts. Temperatures should return to the 60s under sunny skies on Saturday, warming up to the low to mid 70s on Sunday, then into the balmy low 80s by the beginning of next week.
