Two men sought after Wednesday morning home invasion.

A 78-year-old Gallup woman answered a knock at her back door around 9 a.m. Wednesday where a young man asked about an apartment to rent in the neighborhood, and she ended up being robbed at gunpoint, the Gallup Independent reported.

When the woman said she had no space to rent, the young man asked to use her phone, and when he came inside, a second man appeared at the back door and threatened the woman with a handgun, the Independent said.

After handing over her purse, the woman was led into a bathroom and told to stay there for five minutes while the men got away, the paper reported.

The woman was not injured in the robbery, Gallup Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Erin Toadlena-Pablo told the Independent.

One of the suspects is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s with short hair and a thin build, while the other is possibly Hispanic, in his early 20s, about 6 feet tall with a heavy build, Toadlena-Pablo told the paper.

"If you don't know the individual, don't open the door," said Toadlena-Pablo, who urged residents to think twice if a stranger comes to the door.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Gallup Crime Stoppers at (505) 722-6161 or Detective Victor Rodriguez at (505) 863-9365.
