Man is accused of pointing weapon at officer who tried to break up gunfight last month.

Jesus Lovato, 26, is the man police believe pointed his handgun at a Farmington police officer who tried to break up a gunfight outside a Chili's restaurant on March 27 and he was left behind when other suspected gang members made their getaway, the Farmington Daily Times reported.

His own getaway car even ran over his foot as it left the Chili's parking lot, the Daily Times said.

Lovato, who is charged with third-degree aggravated assault on a peace officer and fourth-degree shooting at or from a motor vehicle, waived his preliminary hearing on Thursday and was released on a $15,000 bond, the paper reported.

Several others believed to have been involved in the gunfight have either been arrested or turned themselves into police, the Daily Times said.

One of them, Leo Lovato, who was arrested April 2, is being held at the San Juan County Detention Center on a $101,000 cash-only bond, charged with conspiracy but not with firing a shot during the fight, the paper reported.

Lovato's preliminary hearing was continued until April 24 because the sheriff's detective overseeing the case was unable to appear Thursday, over the objections of Leo Lovato's attorney Scott Curtis who argued that his client was entitled to a hearing within 10 days of his arrest, the Daily Times said.

Another suspect, Alexander Wenger, originally was questioned by detectives and released, turned himself in on Monday, and suspect Timothy Jaramillo surrendered last week, the paper reported.

Wenger and Jaramillo, who are being held on $100,000 bonds each, are scheduled for preliminary hearings next Thursday, according to the Daily Times.

One only suspect, Sam Lovato, remains at large in connection with the parking lot shootout, but San Juan County sheriff's Lt. Tyler Truby told the paper that the investigation is continuing and that there may be more arrests.
