Man, accused of robbing home at gunpoint Sunday night, surrenders early Monday.

Robert Martinez, 53, wanted in connection with the armed robbery of a Gallup couple at their home Sunday night, surrendered to police around 4:15 a.m. Monday after a long standoff with members of a tactical team, the Gallup Independent reported.

Martinez is accused of walking into the home of Sam Chavez around 9 p.m. Sunday and demanding that Chavez pay him an undisclosed amount of money he said was owed to him, Gallup Deputy Police Chief John Allen told the Independent.

Martinez was accompanied by a second man who was armed with a shotgun, who reportedly aimed the shotgun at the head of Chavez's girlfriend, and Chavez complied with Martinez's demand, giving the two an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing in a Pontiac Grand Prix, the Independent reported.

The homeowner told police he knew Martinez but was unable to identify the second man, who was not apprehended, the Independent said.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Erin Toadlena-Pablo told ABQjournal.com that the second  man remains at large this morning and that the investigation is continuing.

She also told us that there appears to be no connection between Sunday's armed robbery and last Wednesday's armed robbery of a 78-year-old Gallup woman at her home.

According to earlier reports, the two suspects being sought in that case were Hispanic males in their early 20s.
