Curry County man accused of stealing 465 gallons before station had to shut down.

An arrest warrant was issued Monday for 54-year-old Robert "Bobby" L. Daniel for the alleged theft of approximately 465 gallons of fuel from a Grady gas station that has since had to close because of repeated losses, the Clovis News Journal reported.

Daniel is accused of stealing the gas on three separate occasions between Jan. 17 and March 5 from a self-serve station owned by Red Rock Oil Co. of Clovis, the News Journal reported.

The Curry County Sheriff's Office also said that Daniel damaged machinery and equipment at the station during all three incidents, the paper said.

Red Rock Oil shut the station down on March 24, forcing Grady residents to drive more than 30 miles to Clovis or San Jon to buy gasoline, and owner Darrell Cook has blamed losses of more than $30,000 in theft and damage as his reason for shutting down, the News Journal said.

Sheriff's deputies seized Daniel's tractor-trailer and have executed search warrants at his home and at the home of an unnamed associate, according to a sheriff's department release.

Sheriff Matt Murray said his office made contact with Daniel on Friday and offered him an opportunity to be present for the searches but the suspect never showed up, the News Journal reported.
