Strange to say, it's actually a little early for the last freeze of spring in ABQ.
Here's another one of those fascinating features on the National Weather Service Web site, showing how late the last spring freeze can come to New Mexico. In Albuquerque, for example, the average last date for below-32 temperatures at the Sunport is April 16, but it comes much later for other parts of the metro area. The average last date for Los Lunas is May 2, for the South Valley May 3, the Foothills on May 4, and in Corrales you could be covering the plants and taking in the pooch until May 9, the weather service said. Just to show you how different it can be for Albuquerque folks, our Weather Underground shows the current temperature as 29 degrees, but the weather service Web site reads 37. And, according to KOAT-TV's weather guy Jason Stiff, it's a chilly 19 right now in Gallup, 21 in Taos and 25 in Raton. We'll be warming up to 70 today under sunny skies, with high temperatures for the next few days expected to hit the high 70s, according to the weather service. Strong winds will kick up again on Saturday night and Sunday.
