Rockies edge Padres 2-1 in a 22-inning game that ended at 2:21 a.m. MDT.
San Diego Padres ace Jake Peavey threw the first pitch at the Colorado Rockies in Petco Park at 7:05 p.m. (Pacific Time) on Thursday, and the last pitch wasn't thrown until 6 hours, 16 minutes later, in the longest major league game since Aug. 31, 1993, when Minnesota beat Cleveland -- also in 22 innings, The Associated Press is reporting. The Rockies finally won (at 1:21 a.m. Pacific Time, less than four hours ago) with Troy Tulowitzki's two-our RBI double that scored Willy Taveras in a nearly empty ballpark, the AP reported. The game ended when Padres reliever Glendon Rusch took a called third strike, and the Rockies' Yorvit Torrealba, who caught all 22 innings, wearily pumped his fist in celebration, according to the AP report.
