Grand jury indictment lists eight counts from 2005 and 2006.
A Bernalillo County grand jury on Monday indicted Daniel M. Salazar of Albuquerque on eight counts of felony tax evasion, according to a state Taxation and Revenue Department news release. Salazar was charged with willfully attempting to evade or defeat his New Mexico gross-receipts taxes for eight quarterly tax periods during the years 2005 and 2006, the release said. If convicted, he could be imprisoned for a year and fined up to $1,000 for each count, according to the release. "All New Mexicans have an obligation to pay their taxes each year," Taxation and Revenue Secretary Rick Homans said in the release. "This ensures that our communities receive their fair share for roads, education and public safety." The case was the result of an investigation by the Taxation and Revenue Department's Tax Fraud Investigations Division and is being prosecuted by the state Attorney General's Office, the release said.
