Inspectors find seven safety violations after November fatality at recycling center.
State inspectors are proposing to fine the city of Las Cruces $27,450 after finding seven safety violations at a city recycling facility where contract worker Jim Clark was killed last November, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported. Clark, 49, was killed Nov. 16 at the South Central Solid Waste Transfer and Recycling Facility, while trying to clear a paper jam from a paper baler, the Sun-News reported. The city could contest the findings from the state Occupational Health and Safety Bureau or avoid paying the fine by correcting the alleged safety violations before May 8, the paper said. The transfer station is owned by the South Central Solid Waste Authority, and the city owns the baler and leases the recycling center property from the authority, according to the Sun-News.
