James King, 47, allegedly attacked 27-year-old man at a local bar in January.

James King, 47, an anesthetist nurse at the Southern New Mexico Surgery Center in Alamogordo, was indicted by a grand jury April 15 on several charges stemming from a Jan. 25 stabbing at the Palm Side Lounge on White Sands Boulevard, the Alamogordo Daily News reported.

King is accused of stabbing 27-year-old Javier Pacheco several times in the back, the paper said.

Pacheco suffered a severed spinal cord and was rushed by helicopter to Thomason Hospital in El Paso following the attack, the Daily News reported.

King is charged with felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence, as well as misdemeanor negligent use of a deadly weapon, aggravated driving under the influence and two counts of resisting, evading or obstructing an officer, the Daily News said.

Two citizens and three officers with the Alamogordo Department of Public Safety testified before the grand jury, the paper reported.
