Manzano H.S., Chelwood and Apache schools have been released

3:35pm UPDATE: The lockdown on all three schools has been lifted according to KOB radio.

3:05pm UPDATE: Several streets in the vicinity of Manzano High School have been blocked off, and Albuquerque police will only say they are looking for a "suspicious person," according to APD spokeswoman Trish Hoffman.

2:55pm UPDATE: KOB-TV is reporting that there is a "heavy police presence" in the area of the schools under lockdown at this hour. Manzano High School principal Tim Whalen [corrected spelling] told KOB-TV moments ago that police had told him their concern was focused on an area just east of the high school. Wayland told the station that plans were under way at the high school and nearby elementary schools for an exit procedure and asked parents to be patient.

Parents were being turned away from the school, KOB-TV reported.

Three schools in the vicinity of Lomas and Chelwood Park Boulevard NE -- Manzano High School and Chelwood and Apache elementary schools -- were put on lockdown around 2 p.m. today when school officials were told by Albuquerque police of a "suspicious person" in the area, according to Albuquerque Public Schools spokeswoman Lauran Morrison.

Let-out time at the high school was at 2:20 p.m. and students were asked to board buses in the school's west parking lot rather than the east lot, Morrison said.

Apache Elementary School is scheduled to let out at 2:45 p.m., and Chelwood at 2:55 p.m., but it was unclear at the moment whether students would be allowed to leave at the regular time, Morrison said.
