Get ready for another ride on the weather roller-coaster this week.
After a chilly start this morning (just 39 right now), we're going up to 74 today, which is the average high temperature for this date. Then expect well above average temperatures on Tuesday (85) and Wednesday (82), with the added surprise of winds kicking up by midweek to between 20 and 25 mph, gusting to 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service. The forecasts differ about what's expected on Thursday, with the weather service forecasting a high of 75, but other prognosticators (like The Weather Channel and KOAT-TV's Jason Stiff) calling for a dip into the low 60s. We'll see. One thing seems clear: There's a big change coming to New Mexico by Wednesday, with surface winds reaching 25 to 35 mph around the state and gusts to 50 mph in some areas, maybe even 60 mph east of the central mountains, according to this morning's area weather forecast. Low humidities are expected to accompany the high winds later this week, with the greatest fire danger predicted to appear east of the mountains on Wednesday and Friday, the weather service said.
