Aztec boy, 14, allegedly stabbed grandfather over at-home drug test kit.

Jack McCrea, 14, of Aztec was being held in the San Juan County Juvenile Detention Center this weekend, facing two felony charges over his alleged attack on his grandparents last week over an at-home drug test, the Farmington Daily Times reported.

McCrea faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery against a household member over an alleged incident last Thursday night at his grandparents' home, San Juan County sheriff's Lt. Tyler Truby told the Daily Times.

According to a sheriff's department news release, McCrea's grandparents suspected he had stolen some money to buy marijuana and were about to use a drug test kit to see whether their suspicions were correct, the paper reported.

The three were together in the kitchen of the home, where McCrea was living with his grandparents, when the boy became angry and attacked his grandparents with an 8-inch kitchen knife, the Daily Times said.

The grandfather was stabbed once in the left side of his chest, in the back and on both arms, and the grandmother suffered only minor cuts on her hands, the paper reported.

Both grandparents wrestled with the teen, disarmed him and held him until deputies arrived at their home, according to the Daily Times.

"The grandfather was not seriously injured," Truby told the paper. "He was treated and released following the incident."
