A state District Court jury on Friday acquitted 51-year-old Gilbert Oldfield of Farmington of rape and kidnapping charges, but Oldfield could face contempt charges for remarks he made to his accuser while leaving the courtroom, the Farmington Daily Times reported.

Oldfield was accused in March 2007 after a 21-year-old woman claimed he picked her up and raped her inside his mobile home trailer while parked outside a truck stop on U.S. 64, the Daily Times said.

"It was consensual to begin with and they turned it into something much more than that," Oldfield said following the trial.

After the not-guilty verdict was read, Oldfield allegedly called the woman "a lying bitch" as he left the courtroom, and now he's facing a charge of contempt of court.

"I didn't mean to offend the court or the judge with that statement, but what I did say was fair and accurate, although it was very emotional," Oldfield said afterward.

State District Judge Sandra Price will hold a contempt hearing on May 6.

If Oldfield is found guilty, he could face a fine or up to six months in jail, the Daily Times said.
