Rising runoff will close parts of Cochiti Lake from May to early June, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said in a news release.

Gradual but higher runoff will add about 12 to 17 feet of water to the lake, making the new beach and swimming area inaccessible to the public as water is released from late May to early June, the release said.

The Tetilla Recreation Area by way of Santa Cruz Road also will become impassable once the water storage is at its highest level, now projected to be on Memorial Day weekend, and areas along the lake's eastern shorline, including Windsurfers Point, will not be usable, according to the Corps of Engineers.

The lake should return to recreation pool elevation on or before June 15, the release said.
