Customs and Border Protection officers doing anti-terror inspections at El Paso-area ports of entry from Mexico turned up 6,284 pounds of marijuana in 30 different drug seizures last week, El Paso television station KVIA reported.

Last Wednesday, agents at the Paso del Norte port of entry in downtown El Paso seized 26.5 pounds of marijuana hidden in a car driven by a 14-year-old boy, KVIA reported.

The boy, a U.S. citizen who lives in Juarez, was turned over to El Paso police for prosecution, the station said.

At the same crossing on April 25, CBP officers seized some 74 pounds of pot hidden in a 1997 Toyota Corolla driven by a 63-year-old man, also a U.S. citizen who lives in Juarez, KVIA reported.

In addition to the marijuana seizures, customs officers uncovered 88 immigration violations, 50 of whom were identified through thorough document inspections, the station said.
