Police hope Crime Stoppers' latest list of fugitives will generate new leads.
Four of the eight fugitives on the latest Las Cruces/Dona Ana County Crime Stoppers "Most Wanted" list are being sought in separate homicides, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported. The public's response to previous "Most Wanted" lists have been helpful in locating fugitives, and the tips start coming in as soon as the list is published, Crime Stoppers co-coordinator Mark Myers told the Sun-News. In fact, Crime Stoppers has had people turn themselves in after making the list, Myers told the paper. Included on the most recent list are: Luis Daniel Macias Alvarez, 28, wanted in the Jan. 29, 2007 slaying of 49-year-old transient Mark Cobb, after a fight west of Onate High School. Jesus Gonzales, now about 27, wanted in the stabbing death of 16-year-old Johnny Rubio behind the old SoLo Food Warehouse 12 years ago, when he was just 15. Gerardo Juan Jimenez, 36, of Chaparral, wanted in the November 2006 rape and severe beating of his then-17-year-old wife, after an argument over whether she could take her GED test. Greg Zavala, 33, wanted in the January 1994 murder of Rick Soria. Armando Orta, 43, of Mesilla Park, wanted for allegedly sexually assaulting a young child. Eduardo Estrada Garcia, age not given, wanted in the November 2006 beating death of 31-year-old Emely Corina Howard of El Paso, whose body was found in the desert south of Chaparral. Isidro Longoria, 20, of Anthony, N.M., a suspect in the May 18, 2007 shooting death of Gerardo Baltazar, 17, also of Anthony. Jorge Corrales, 47, wanted on suspicion of trafficking cocaine.
