Most of the state to enjoy clear, mild weather today

And Gov. Bill Richardson will enjoy his new Ford Escape hybrid SUV as he takes possession at 10 this morning at Bob Turner Ford in Albuquerque. An example to us all! Unless, of course, he tries to push it to 110 mph!

The state's work-at-home Treasurer Robert Vigil probably WON'T enjoy a hearing, also at 10 this morning, in U.S. District Judge James Parker's courtroom in Albuquerque where federal prosecutors will try to curtail his access to the Treasurer's Office he is clinging to. Arrested on Sept. 16 on two counts of extortion, Vigil is facing 19 new counts in a federal indictment filed this week in connection with an alleged kickback scheme. Click here for the latest.

On a lighter note,  for those of the Scots-Irish persuasion, there's a chance to wrap on the kilts, toss a caber or two and dig the vinegary skirl of the pipes (you know, soul music for Highlanders) at the annual Rio Rancho Highland Games this weekend. It's at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Rio Rancho Sports Complex, off High Resort Boulevard. Events go on all day, music, games, corned beef and cabbage as well as (mmmmmm!) haggis. Admission is $10, children 12 and under free. Read more here.
