Closed since May 2 because of Trigo Fire, park will be ready for visitors on Wednesday.

The Manzano Mountains State Park, which opened for the summer on May 1 and shut down again on May 2 because of the Trigo Fire, will be open and ready for summer visitors at 8 a.m. Wednesday, the New Mexico State Parks Division said in a news release.

Although the Trigo Fire, which was pronounced fully contained on Sunday, did not burn inside the park, about 60 acres were burned in the Ojo Fire last November, and parks personnel are rehabilitating the burned areas, the release said.

Park Superintendent Joseph Christopherson said in the release that Level 2 fire restriction remain in effect, banning smoking except inside enclosed buildings or vehicles, according to the release.

Fireworks are prohibited under Level 2 restrictions, and cooking and heating devices must use kerosene, white gas or propane within any improved camping area, the release said.

Manzano Mountains State Park is located 16 miles northwest of Mountainair by way of N.M. 55 and N.M. 131.

Call the park at (505) 847-2820 for more information.
