UNM president Michael Martin has been named the sole finalist for the position of chancellor at Louisiana State University, according to the LSU Web site.

Martin, 61, was selected from a field of 11 candidates. He will visit the Baton Rouge campus next week to interview, starting Tuesday.

"He would be a very strong leader for our campus," Dr. Jack Hamilton, search committee chair, said in a news release.

Martin has been president of  NMSU since 2004.
