18-year-old ABQ man, suspect in 2006 homicide, released from hospital Thursday.
Police have identified the man involved in an early Thursday morning shootout with officers on Central near Louisiana as 18-year-old Timothy Walker, who suffered three gunshot wounds before being caught hiding in a Dumpster behind the Caravan East nightclub, the Albuquerque Journal reported this morning. Walker, who was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center after being released from the hospital later Thursday, had an outstanding warrant for a 2006 incident in which he was charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with great bodily harm, conspiracy and tampering with evidence, the Journal reported. Police also said Walker is a registered sex offender, although his name does not appear on the state's sex offender registry, the Journal said. A criminal complaint says Walker told police he "listened to the voice in his head telling him to run" after a being stopped by officers for driving erratically on Central around 3:30 a.m. Walker disputed officers' account of the shootout, telling police later that he ran from the 1999 Cadillac he was driving and only fired one warning shot over his shoulder because officers were chasing him, according to the criminal complaint. He is now charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and evading police, the Journal reported. Officers involved in the shootout are now on standard, three-day paid administrative leave, police told the Journal. During the Thursday morning incident, police arrested 25-year veteran KOB-TV cameraman Rick Foley after APD Officer Daniel Guzman told him to move to a different location, according to another Journal story this morning. You can see raw video footage of the incident on KOB-TV's Web site.

Around noon today, Albuquerque police located the 1992 Cadillac Seville from which a 19-year-old driver allegedly fired shots at officers after a traffic stop at Central and Dallas SE at about 2 this morning, APD spokeswoman Officer Nadine Hamby told ABQjournal.com. There was no sign of the two people who were in the car with the 19-year-old whose name hasn't been released yet by police, Hamby told us. The car was abandoned just two blocks from the original crime scene, she said. After firing at police, the man ran across the street, and after a massive search of the area, officers found him hiding in a Dumpster behind the Caravan East nightclub just before 4 a.m., Hamby said. The man had two felony warrants from when he was a juvenile, and although it has been reported that the warrants were for homicides, Hamby said it isn't at all clear from the juvenile warrants what the underlying crimes were. It is known, however, that the 19-year-old is a registered sex offender, Hamby said. No officers were injured, and the man reportedly suffered wounds to his arms and legs, for which he was being treated at a hospital. But it isn't clear whether the injuries were from police officers returning fire.
