Air conditioning out since Thursday; today's high expected to hit 101.

The Dona Ana County Magistrate Courthouse was shut down this morning because of faulty air conditioning, the Las Cruces Sun-News is reporting.

The courthouse, in a city-owned building at 151 N. Church St., has been without air-conditioning since Thursday, the Sun-News reported.

According to the National Weather Service, it is already 88 degrees at this hour in Las Cruces, and the high is expected to hit 101 both today and tomorrow and should remain in triple digits on Wednesday.

Court administrators decided at 9 this morning to close the courthouse at least for the rest of the day, District Attorney Susana Martinez told the Sun-News.

About 50 cases were to be heard today, the paper reported.

Officials will reopen the courthouse on Tuesday, but Martinez told the Sun-News that whether it remains open depends on getting the air conditioning back in order.

It was unclear whether the Las Cruces Municipal Court, which occupies the back of the same building, would remain open today, the paper reported.
