The storm that rained on the Angels' parade heading this way

Today is clear and mild in New Mexico, but clouds are expected to gather and the Southern California storm that underlined the Los Angeles Angels' fizzled season is expected to reach us some time Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Meanwhile, the Chicago White Sox are headed to the World Series -- can vindication for Shoeless Joe Jackson be far behind?

Speaking of letting bygones be bygones, on this day in 1978, then-President Jimmy Carter restored full citizenship to Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

But in a less forgiving spirit, it was on Oct. 17, 1931, that Chicago mobster Al Capone was convicted of ... income tax evasion? Big Al, who was rumored to have vacationed from time to time near Jemez Springs, spent just six years and five months of his 11-year sentence in prison, but died a sick and broken man in Florida in 1947.

Today is also the first day of the new more stringent bankruptcy laws. It's going to be a lot tougher to go broke.

Have a frugal day.
