Mayor Martin Chavez is urging cities nationwide to phase out the purchase of bottled water if "feasible." He is co-sponsor of a resolution being considered at the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Miami.

Chavez has already cut bottled water from Albuquerque's city budget. He said it was an unnecessary expense. Critics also say the bottles take up valuable space in the landfill.
