Tajique residents have been asked to evacuate

As many as 200 residents have been asked to leave their homes, said Arlene Perea, spokeswoman for the Mountainair Ranger District.

The fire has burned between 700 to 1,000 acres, Perea said.

The Big Spring Fire, which had burned approximately 300 acres in the Manzano Mountains as of early this morning, has doubled in size in just the past two hours, Arlene Perea, spokeswoman for the Mountainair Ranger District, said in a news release.

An evacuation order was issued for the Sherwood Forest Subdivision, which was ravaged by the Trigo Fire in early May, and surrounding neighborhoods, the news release said.

All residents are urged to evacuate and report to the Red Cross Center set up in the Estancia Community Center.

No confirmed acreage is being reported at this time, Perea said in the release.

The fire was very active overnight more than tripling in size from the 50 to 100 acres that had burned as of Tuesday and was threatening the Inlow Baptist Youth Camp, from which about 150 children were evacuated on Tuesday, along with residents of some 12 homes in the area, according to earlier reports.

Forest Road 55 remains closed to the public on both sides of the loop, the news release said.
