Man charged with driving under influence in motorcycle-SUV collision Saturday.

David Florez, 59, of Las Cruces was killed around 10:30 p.m. Saturday when the motorcycle he was riding struck an SUV driven by Robert O. Soto, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported.

Police said Soto was driving under the influence when he turned into the path of Florez, who was going westbound on Avenida de Mesilla, the Sun-News reported.

Florez, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene, according to Las Cruces police spokesman Wallace Downs.

Soto was charged with a third-degree count of vehicular homicide and was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center, where he posted a $10,000 bond on Sunday and was released, the Sun-News said.

Another man was killed early Sunday in a single-vehicle crash in Anthony, N.M., the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office told the Sun-News.

The man, whose identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was killed when the pickup truck he was driving skidded through an intersection and landed in a drainage canal, the paper reported.

Sheriff's investigator John Palmer said the crash was believed to have occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday but was not discovered until later Sunday morning, the Sun-News said.
