Two men in custody for Saturday's fatal shooting of 40-year-old Scott Pierce.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting Saturday of 40-year-old Scott Pierce in what police are calling a case of apparent mistaken identity, KOB-TV is reporting.

In custody are Jason R. Skaggs, 35, and Clifton Bloomfield, 39, and investigators believe Bloomfield broke into the victim's Northeast Albuquerque house Saturday morning while Skaggs waited in a getaway car, KOB-TV reported.

Bloomfield allegedly intended to scare the man who used to live in the house because Skaggs was allegedly having an affair with that man's wife, Albuquerque Police Department spokesman John Walsh told Eyewitness News 4.

Police say a startled Bloomfield shot Pierce, who later died in the hospital, KOB-TV reported. Bloomfield is now facing an open count of murder and other charges related to the break-in, the station said.

Pierce and his new wife had just moved into the house about a month before the shooting, according to KOB-TV.

Pierce was shot some time between 3 and 3:30 a.m. Saturday at the couple's home on the 11000 block of Hannett NE and was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital where he died from his injuries, the Albuquerque Journal reported on Sunday.
