New Mexico gas is up to $4.014, according to AAA.

That's nearly a penny above yesterday, when we cross the $4 threshhold. (That's a statewide average.)

(Numbers from AAA Fuel Gauge report , suddenly this reporter's favorite web site.)

Where does your $4 go?

  • crude oil $3.067
  • refining: 38 cents
  • state tax: 18.9 cents
  • federal tax: 18.4 cents
  • distribution and marketing 18 cents
Crude oil is holding stead this morning at just above $140 a barrel, but if you're looking for something to worry about, try soybeans instead. A conspiracy of flooding in the Midwest, changing cropping patterns (think ethanol) and that ever-present price of oil has driven soybean futures this morning to near record levels.
