Deputies say man crashed into a house around 1 a.m. Sunday with two kids in his SUV.

A Las Cruces father is charged with drunken driving and child abuse after he crashed his 1998 GMC Jimmy SUV into a house early Sunday with two children aboard, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported.

Investigators said James Naylor, 36, allegedly lost control of his vehicle which then went some 220 feet down an embankment, over a berm, through some mesquite bushes and crashed into a residence, the Sun-News reported.

Naylor's children, ages 7 and 8, were in the vehicle at the time of the crash and were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, treated and released, the paper said.

The SUV sustained extensive damage, the Sun-News said.

Naylor was presumed to be intoxicated and was charged with aggravated driving under the influence, a misdemeanor, and two counts of negligent child abuse, each a third-degree felony, the paper said.
