And what, some of you may be asking, is that?
Maundy Thursday is what English-speaking Christians call the Thursday before Easter, which Roman Catholics traditionally call Holy Thursday. According to tradition, it is the day on which the Last Supper occurred, and it was when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples in preparation for the Last Supper, according to the Gospel of John. Many churches now include foot-washing -- as a gesture of humble service -- as a Maundy Thursday ritual during Holy Week. "Maundy," according to the Wikipedia article, is an English word derived from the Old French word "mande" and the Latin "mandatum" which refers to Christ's "new commandment" -- "A new commandment I give unto you: Love one another, as I have loved you." (John 13:34).
