No criminal intent found in 2 who ran up $2,500 nightclub bill.

Felony charges of "falsely obtaining services or accommodations over $250" have been dismissed against Craig Everett, 18, of Dexter, and Malik Wakji, 18, of Albuquerque, the hapless young men who were jailed back in August for running up a nearly $2,500 tab for 82 lap dances at the Fantasy World nightclub in Albuquerque.

"We felt that it was more along the lines of a civil matter and it should be resolved that way," Deputy District Attorney Sylvia Martinez told the Journal.

The two had showed up at the club with $50 cash and a credit card with a $500 limit, but racked up a bill of $2,460, according to a Sept. 1 story  in the Journal by T.J. Wilham. When they couldn't pay the bill, they were arrested, telling police officers they didn't know they were paying for multiple dances.

According to Martinez, prosecutors were concerned that the young men may not have been told they'd be charged for each song or dance. "It doesn't appear they knew they were going to get charged again," Martinez said.

Meanwhile, Denver Post columnist Rich Tosches -- who writes on regional topics as the "Rocky Mountain Ranger" -- has written a column titled "Strip Club Flub" on the whole unseemly affair.
