Special prosecutor says no merit to case against county commissioner.
In a follow-up to a story the ABQjournal News Seeker reported on this week, Curry County Commissioner Ed Perales' attorney Randall Harris says felony charges of false imprisonment arising from a weekend incident against his client have been dismissed, according to the Clovis News Journal. Harris said 10th Judicial District special prosecutor Ronald Reeves, named this week by 9th Judicial District Attorney Matt Chandler to void any conflict of interest, found no merit to the charge, according to a story on the paper's Web site Friday. Perales had been accused of holding his wife Belinda and daughter in a room during a family dispute last Sunday. Harris told the paper that the alleged victims had asked the charges to be dismissed. Chandler said he agreed with the Clovis police decision to arrest Perales based on probable cause that a crime had been committed, the News Journal reported.
