Rodolfo Avila and Nathaniel Mondragon were in jail late Monday evening on domestic violence charges According to a criminal complaint, Avila, 39, was arrested on Friday after police were called to an apartment and found his five-months pregnant girlfriend bleeding and bruised from an attack that began when she asked him to turn down the TV so she could sleep. The complaint said the girlfriend reported being hit with a shoe, bitten, slapped, kicked, punched and thrown against doors and walls. The complaint also said both Avila and his girlfriend admitted to drinking alcohol during the evening. The girlfriend was taken to the hospital for her injuries, the complaint said. Nathaniel Mondragon, 26, was arrested on Sunday after someone who heard "thumping" in his motel room called police, according to a criminal complaint. The complaint said that when officers approached the room, they heard screaming, crying and choking sounds coming from inside. As the officers were about to enter the room, the woman opened the door, holding a 1-year-old baby. An officer grabbed the woman and baby and pulled them outside. Meanwhile, Mondragon had moved into the bathroom and locked himself in. He would not come out, and the SWAT team was called. Finally he came out and was taken into custody. The complaint said the woman said Mondragon is the father of the baby. Avila, charged with one count of aggravated battery on a household member and one count of injuring a pregnant woman, was in custody late Monday evening at the Metropolitan Detention Center in lieu of a $50,000 cash or surety bond. Mondragon, charged with one count of aggravated battery on a household member, one count of endangering a child's life or health and one count of false imprisonment, was also in custody late Monday evening at the Metropolitan Detention Center in lieu of a $25,000 cash or surety bond.
