Suspect had three prior DWI arrests

A deputy injured following a crash in the South Valley has been released from the hospital and the driver who investigators say caused the crash will be facing felony DWI charges. According to sheriff's deputies about 11 p.m., Deputy Ramon Eylicio was headed north on Isleta and had a green light at Arenal when Bernie Tapia, 41, pulled out in front of the deputy. Following the crash, Tapia fled on foot. When Eyicio caught up with Tapia, sheriff's deputies deputy said the suspect then fought with Eylicio. The deputy injured his knee while he trying to detain Tapia.

According to court records, Tapia has three prior DWI arrests in Bernalillo County
