Esperanza Theresa Ellis, 36, is charged with battery with a police officer
An Albuquerque mother determined to speak with a school principal in private struck a police officer with a door to prevent him from interfering, according to a criminal complaint.
Esperanza Theresa Ellis and her husband went to Valley High School on Friday to speak with the principal about their child, who had allegedly been involved in a disturbance. Ellis entered the principal's office and locked the door behind her, according to the complaint.
A school resource officer became concerned and tried to get into the office. The officer was able to open the office door, but Ellis tried to shut it, striking the officer with the door, according to the complaint.
Ellis allegedly began yelling at the officer and claimed the officer intentionally hit her with the door. The officer attempted to calm Ellis down and asked her to move away from the door.
Ellis did not comply with the officer's orders and tried to record the incident on her cell phone, according to the complaint. She then allegedly struck the officer with the door.
A struggle ensued when the officer tried to arrest Ellis. She struck the officer about three times with her hand or fist, according to the complaint.
She was eventually arrested and charged.
