I-40 Westbound Closed West of Albuquerque

Bernalillo County Sheriff's deputies are handling their second fatal crash of the day, this one on westbound Interstate 40 near milepost 168, sheriff's spokeswoman Erin Kinnard Thompson tells ABQJournal.com.

A man was trapped in his semi after he drove into the side of the mountain less than an hour ago, Kinnard Thompson said. Responders found him dead at the scene.

A Haz Mat team is on scene to clean up some diesel fuel that spilled from the semi.

Eastbound lanes are open, and authorities hope to have at least one westbound lane open soon.
