Richard S. Smith, 19, of Albuquerque was taken into custody by the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department on Friday, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court.
Smith has been charged with trafficking a controlled substance. His bond was set at $50,000.
The sheriff's department issued an arrest warrant for Smith earlier this month after confidential informants said a person by the name of "yeti" -- who two informants identified by photo as Smith -- was the supplier of ecstasy pills, according to the criminal complaint.
Pills pressed with the figures of pink diamonds, orange monkeys and a lady were associated with "yeti," the complaint states.
After Smith's residence was identified, an apartment located in the 600 block of Menaul NE, detectives on Oct. 14 went to the home and found three people inside, including Smith, according to the criminal complaint.
Smith, who acknowledged "that he was known by most people as the yeti," allowed his home to be searched and "advised us of a plate of ecstasy powder that was in his kitchen cabinet along with the pills the powder was once in," the criminal complaint states. The powdery substance, which later tested positive for ecstasy, and pill casings were tagged as evidence.
After being advised that he could be taken to jail on a drug trafficking charge, Smith agreed to cooperate with detectives and provide information about other people involved in the trafficking of narcotics, according to the criminal complaint. Smith agreed to call detectives the next day. The criminal complaint appears to indicate Smith never called back.
A third confidential informant also told investigators they were obtaining marijuana from "yeti" and "it knew of the yeti dealing ecstasy out of his residence and is a prominent drug dealer," the complaint reads.
A Sheriff's Department detective conducted surveillance on the Menaul NE home and the complaint stated that "the actions observed are consistent with the trafficking of narcotics."
