Man allegedly used shotgun to wound woman over loud party
A man who allegedly fired a shotgun striking a woman at an apartment complex was arrested Monday, according to a criminal complaint. Dominic Padilla, 19, is charged with attempted murder; five counts of aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony; shooting at an occupied dwelling and other charges. The Albuquerque Police Department's SWAT team and police officers responded to a shooting at the Warren Coronado apartments in the 6200 block of Indian School on Friday. Witness told police they were at a party at the complex and that Padilla confronted them about being loud. He also threatened to call police. The group later went to apologize to Padilla so that he would not call police. When Padilla opened his door, he was holding a shotgun. He pumped and cocked the weapon while threatening the group with it, according to the complaint. One person in the group, told Padilla that they were trying to apologize for disturbing him. Padilla then put the gun down and punched another man in the group. A fight ensued between the group and Padilla. Following the fight, Padilla grabbed the shotgun and fired two shots. Shotgun pellets hit a woman in the hand and face. The pellets penetrated her skull and lodged in her brain, according to the criminal complaint. She was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital for her injuries. Police later obtained an arrest warrant for Padilla who admitted to the altercation and firing the shotgun, according to the criminal complaint. He was arrested and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center. He was being held at the detention center Tuesday on a $250,000 cash or surety bond.
