Suspect later jumps from the third story of a parking structure
A motorcyclist was taken into custody after leading police on a chase following an attempted traffic stop.
An Albuquerque police officer tried to stop the male driver of a motorcycle at Unser and Coors when the vehicle fled from the officer, according to the Albuquerque Police Department. Police backed off because they didn't want to endanger other drivers while the suspect drove at a high rate of speed.
Air support was initiated and found the motorcycle heading north on Coors near Fortuna stopped at a red light. The motorcycle then made a U-turn and headed south on Coors through the Isleta Pueblo to southbound Interstate 25 to Belen.
It exited at a Belen off-ramp, and the driver attempted to stop to get gasoline at a convenience store. A Belen police vehicle passed by, and the driver fled to I-25.
The motorcyclist later got off I-25 and headed to another convenience store in Bernalillo. The driver stopped for gas once again.
He then returned to I-25 north and drove back to Albuquerque at a high rate of speed, according to police. The motorcycle got off the interstate once it reached Albuquerque and pulled into the Presbyterian Hospital parking structure near Central Boulevard.
It left the structure after a few seconds and headed to the Albuquerque Convention Center parking structure, according to police. Unmarked police vehicles were able to block the motorcycle in.
The suspect left his motorcycle and jumped from the third floor of the structure to the ground floor sidewalk.
He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for minor injuries.
