GOP confident of Wilson victory; county extends deadline to 9 p.m.
With incumbent Rep. Heather Wilson holding on to a roughly 900-vote lead, and GOP observers claiming there are about 500 ballots left to count, according to this morning's Albuquerque Journal story, you'd think it would be over. The official unofficial number of votes left to be counted as of this morning is 1,985, but GOP tallies say the actual count is no more than 500, and county elections administrator Jaime Diaz told the Journal that an estimated 200 of those had been disqualified. But it's never over till it's over, and Bernalillo County elections officials say their previously announced deadline of 4 p.m. today to finish their vote count would be extended to 9 p.m., according to another Journal story this morning. And we're hearing nothing from the Patricia Madrid camp, but if we do, it's more likely to be an acknowledgement rather than a concession. Meanwhile, we can hear the lawyers shuffling their papers, sharpening their pencils and firing up the PowerPoint, getting ready for the next round.
